Returning clients approached us to assist in the interior design of a large ground floor apartment for rental. The property required a total renovation. Whilst there was a good sized living room at the front of the property with a south facing bay window, the kitchen was located at the rear of the apartment, and was flanked externally buy a high wall and many trees, making it extremely dark.
The property benefited from two entrances which offered the opportunity to utilise the internal space in a more productive way. Re planning the internal layout assisted the offer enormously, turning a two bedroom, one bathroom apartment, into a four bedroom, three bathroom property.
The myriad of dark rooms and corridors to the front of the apartment were opened up to make space for a large, bright kitchen and living area, whilst the original entrance hall was made into an ensuite bathroom for the main bedroom
Turning the original kitchen into a bedroom, and the utility room into a Jack and Jill bathroom, also opened up another bedroom - formerly the original bathroom. Opening the dark, cramped stairwell into the basement also enlarged the entrance hall. The spaces throughout the property were further enhanced by a new lighting design, and original features were preserved as much as possible, in line with the clients’ brief to retain character.
