de hasse store
TUNBRIDGE WELLS
Styled and photographed by Giselle De Hasse
The De Hasse store was a renovation project and utilised reclaimed materials and within the fabric of the shop and studio.
Previously a butcher, then a book shop, its well trodden olive carpet wrapped itself around orange pine banisters and book shelves buckling under the weight of book collections. Its magnolia walls were lined with shelves full to bursting and lit by fluorescent strip lighting.
The carpet was removed to reveal the original quarry tiled floor and concrete, which was brushed, sealed and left in its natural state, formed the finished floor for the studio.
Conduit was used to minimise disruption to the walls and connect newly sourced, reclaimed industrial light fittings.
In keeping with the restorative ethos of the brand, reclaimed timber was used to form paneling and steps leading to the rear of the shop where a denim style fabric wall helped to make the design studio space cosy.
Brickwork was exposed and steel and glass screens designed by Giselle, were fabricated to divide the studio from the store.
